City Budget & Finance Committee Proposes Reducing NC Budgets by 78%
Monday, May 18, 2009
In a letter from BongHwan Kim, General Manager, Department of Neighborhood Empowerment, about May 6, 2009, he noted that the City is considering reducing Neighborhood Council budgets to $11,200 from $50,000, a reduction of 78%. This would not be enough for Neighborhood Councils to conduct meetings or outreach much less any neighborhood improvements. Since then, there has been an outcry from Neighborhood Councils across the City. According to a May 18, 2009 press release, the City Council has voted to reduce NC funds only from $50,000 to $45,000. Good news!
