Article Update April 2012
Congressman Howard P. 'Buck' McKeon and his wife, Patricia dropped in to the April 3, 2012 PRNC meeting. The Congressman was welcomed by the Board and given a few moments to speak. He mentioned that he was aware of the rumblings in Porter Ranch that we might not receive much attention by his office and he had come to personally asure us of his concern for this part of the district. He also introduced his wife who is a candidate for the Assembly seat in our area. Current Assemblyman Cameron Smyth is termed out.

The Porter Ranch community has been divided during the recent Congressional redistricting process. The districts were redrawn by a voter-approved citizens’ commission. As shown in the image below. The section shown in brown, west of Aliso Canyon to Moonshine/Limekiln Canyon is in a different district that the section to the west of Moonshine/Limekiln Canyon to Brown's Canyon. The Porter Ranch Estates and ungated communities are in a different district than the Heights, Promenade, Villagio, Tuscany, Sorrento. And the Renaissance community is divided. The image below from the NY Times shows the current district in orange, District 27. Parts of Porter Ranch will be in District 30, outlined in red. District 30 will be the scene of a primary battle by existing Representatives Brad Sherman, of the 27th District, and Howard Berman, of the 28th District, both Democratic incumbents. Read about it in the NY Times or Daily News. The other part of Porter Ranch is included in the 25th Congressional District, with incumbant Buck McKeon and candidate Lee Rogers.
